Ok . . . I admit it . . . while standing in line a Starbucks I'll always read my horoscope when it's displayed at the counter. More often than not my reaction is "Yeah . . . right." Generally speaking I find them "generally speaking" as to say they don't say much special, or specific at all. But this one caught my attention and it's one of the few that brought a little more semblance to my quest to not only serve; but to serve well.
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). "It's not enough to have a talent; you have to master it. It's the time you put in that matters. The command you have over your gifts is more important than which gifts you have" by Holiday Mathis.
It echoes the thought I had earlier this year: That instead of trying to do everything and not accomplishing much . . . what if I instead focused on the things I seem do particularly well and worked hard at those. It's not to say I can't, or don't, lend an extra helping hand here or there. But more to say I find it more beneficial if I concentrate on honing and sharpening the skills that I seem to be able to use best.
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23-24
"So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church." 1 Corinthians 14:12
"Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness." Romans 12:6-8
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." James 1:17
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good." 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
"O great creator of being grant us one more hour to perform our art and perfect our lives." James Douglas Morrison
